Play Big Brother With Your iPhone.
Finally, something in today’s technological world that would make even J. Edgar Hoover proud. I just read about a great little application that was made available for your iPhone. Well, great with a little bit of scary included. We all wish we could monitor our personal abode when we are away. Whether it be while we are on vacation, at our cubicles at work, or even out for a night on the town, there is always that nervous feeling that someone is going to break in and steal our stuff. Maybe this is not true for everyone, but I am a little more paranoid than the average bear, so hopefully someone out there can relate. Anyways, with this new application, you can link up wirelessly to your security cameras to get a real-time view form the eye of the lens. What’s even better is you can actually take control of the security camera from the iPhone itself! Sure, you would actually have to install security cameras at your house, which most people do not bother to do, but with this technology coming out giving you access at your fingertips, I think it might persuade more people to become security concious. Plus, wherever you are, be it poolside down in Orlando, or skiing in the Swiss Alps, you will always have the knowledge of what is going on back at home.
I know the world is full of people saying technological advancements such as this makes it that much easier for “Big Brother” to watch our every move. I say who cares whether they are watching or not, they will find something on you if they are looking in the first place, anyways. Why not synch your phone up to your home security system, and at least you can watch as the burglar as he smashes through your window in with a baseball bat. That way you can call your local police, a neighbor, or even your alarm company to let them know what is going down back on the homefront. After all, knowing is better than coming back from a weekend at Mickey’s only to discover someone stole your Sex in the City DVD collection. Call me crazy, but I for one think this is a great tool in protecting ourselves. Once this ability hits users of devices other than the iPhone, I feel that everyone might think twice before disregarding the notion of hooking up cameras in our homes. Of course, it will not take long before we get angry spouses surveiling their suspected significant others, voyeurs checking out the neighbors’ nightly events, and so on. Good technology always seems to fall into the wrong hands somewhere down the road. Soon after that, the private eye industry may go bankrupt.
