When you think laptops, you usually don’t think about rugged and tough.

I saw this video on YouTube and it has me wondering if it is really something we are going to be seeing in the coming future. The idea behind it is brilliant, although you only get to see a portion of the concept device in this video, it is worth checking out to try and get further details. It certainly is believable, especially since a portion of the computer (the projection keyboard) already exists, as I have reviewed one on this very blog. Look at the video and see if you are as amazed as I was, then consider if they are for real or just pulling our chain.

I despise the community fridge in our office. Moldy, out of date food and a constant malfunction in maintaining temperature really makes me question if anything left inside it is healthy. It has gotten to be so bad that I no longer bring in a lunch, which gets a little costly when I get a little hungry. I have checked into those personal, dorm-sized fridges on auction sites and want ads, but the thought of parking those ugly, brown boxes that can fit a few cans of soda really doesn’t appeal to me.

There must be a small group of office workers like me that feel the need to keep their personal food and drink items close to them at all times, and for us they have this little Mini Fridge/Warmer that would work perfectly for my needs.

The best feature here is the appearance. It fits nicely under most desks, and has a sharp look with the clear glass door and futuristic look. The fact that the temperature, which is controlled by a digital thermostat, can go from 44 degrees to 140 means you can either keep things ice cold or nice and warm, depending on your lunch for the day. Having such a versatile appliance at your feet will prevent you from ever having to get up from your desk altogether, unless of course you need a restroom break. I haven’t found any decent looking bedpans for office use, but believe you me I am actively searching. It’s not that I am lazy, I just hate running into the same crowd to and from my desk, getting caught up in those awkward, annoying conversations with people you spend all day trying to avoid. Tuck this away under your desk and nobody will even have a clue why they don’t see you anymore.

Can you tell I am an oversleeper? A fan of the snooze button? Well, since I have been writing for this blog I have reviewed several alarm clocks aimed to prevent oversleeping. And you can add this one to the arsenal. The Sonic Bomb alarm clock is just as it sounds. Guaranteed to wake you up with a near heart attack, it pipes in with a volume just over a jackhammer (113 decibels). And if your ears don’t typically respond well to an alarm clock, just slip the bed shaker under your mattress and you’ll be popping up from dreamland like a Californian in the middle of an earthquake.

Its red and black appearance is a nice touch, and believe it or not it does have a snooze button, just in case you didn’t have your heart in your throat the first time. Get a sonic wake up and cure that oversleeping problem once and for all. I think with this I will never be late for another meeting again. I just hope my health insurance is in good standing. I better keep the phone nearby just in case of an emergency.

With more gadgets going wireless, the biggest thing now is to take advantage of the free Wi-Fi access areas that seem to be popping up all over the world. Working on the go has never been easier, and being able to park your butt with your laptop of PDA and enjoy connectivity at the drop of a hat is a great feeling. The only problem is, how do you know where those Wi-Fi access areas are? If you are strolling through New York City, pretty much the entire metropolitan area is hooked up. Smaller towns have coffee shops and libraries that advertise their free wireless access, but you are not always so lucky to have it spelled out on a sign for you. While many of the wireless electronics have their own built-in detectors, you also have the option of this little device that may save you time and energy when looking for a mobile workspace.

This Digital WiFi Detector will point you to the hottest Wi-Fi spots around. And what’s even better is the display will tell you not only where the signal is, but how strong a signal you can expect, ensuring you don’t sit down and set up shop only to find out that you are in a weak zone. The back lit LCD screen is a nice touch, allowing you to read it in even the darkest of days, and also lets you know about what encryption types are there for each network, if any.

Aimed at the traveling professional, you could also use this to ride around your neighborhood and see who is offering free, unencrypted wireless signal. Of course, I would never condone sponging off another person’s network, anyways. After all they can see what you are doing that way.

Ok, if you are ever in the need for a voice recorder, here is the ultimate solution. So light you won’t even know it is in your pocket, this Ultra-thin Digital Voice recorder has it all for the executive on the move. Forst, it is the size of a credit card and weighs only 36 grams, so you can carry it anywhere without the hassle of feeling it in your pocket. At 6.5 millimeters in thickness, you might just have to be careful it doesn’t fall through the cracks. But just because it is so light and compact doesn’t mean you are sacrificing any quality. Try filling up the 1GB of storage that holds up to 69 hours of voice recordings. You can record virtually everything you need with that much storage. And the 4.5 hour recording time in-between charging will ensure you will never miss out on an important conversation. And you can easily recharge the lithium-ion battery via your USB port on any computer. Perfect for anyone who needs to record conversations, interviews, or even document verbal evidence. You never know when you can take someone’s word nowadays. Sorry to be so cynical, but it is the world we live in today.

In the “what’s out there to stop workday boredom” news lately, check out this USB Mini R/C Car that will surely keep your desk top going no matter how slow a workday you are having. Plugging into your USB port, the little R/C auto only needs 10 minutes of charge time before you start running through your obstacle course of pencils, erasers, cups, and more. The convenient garage houses the car when not in operation, so that your supervisor doesn’t catch you with non-work related toys on your desk. What a great way to relax and blow off a few minutes of steam.

I have had several moments in my life where I have “almost” forgot my cell phone. Bars, restaurants, even rides at Disney World, have all played a temporary home to my cell phone. I have made the trip the following morning to claim my phone, and amazingly enough I have yet to experience a time where it couldn’t be found. But my time is due.

For those of us who are forgetful when it comes to our cellular buddy, there is the BlueAlert Bluetooth bracelet to save us from that temporary loss. Not only does this bracelet sync up to your Bluetooth capable phone, alerting you to every phone call (just in case you are like me and can never feel the vibrations when the ringer is off), but it signals you whenever you travel more than 5 meters away from your cell. Talk about multi-functional. Nothing fancy, this plain and simple bracelet can be a very useful tool in saving your life, especially if you are one that depends highly on their cellular device.

It may look corny to wear around your wrist, but trust me it will be worth the clash in wardrobe. And with an increasing number of gadgets connecting with Bluetooth technology lately, it may b more handy than you think.

I have been looking around for motion sensor light switches for years, mainly because of the increasing amount of teenagers that enter my house and decide not to remember to turn them off. But somehow I always forget to pick a few up when at the hardware store. Since I have begun this journey for the perfect solution, there have been a wide variety of products out there that have really peaked my interest. For example, take a look at this SensorPlug motion activated electrical outlet. I can really use this for more than just my lights. Radios, televisions, annoying little gizmos that my dear children seem to think magically tuen off by themselves. I know I have ranted about this in some of my older posts, but imagine that I am still being haunted by the very same problem. I really have nobody but my procrastination to blame.

The SensorPlug keeps thing nice and simple. You don’t have to install anything, you just easily plug it into your existing outlet, then plug your device(s) into it and you are done. You can set the timer to shut down after 2 to 5 minutes of inactivity to fit your personal preferences. Whenever motion is detected, the timer resets. And the sensor offers a wide angle range to fit any spot in the house. You can even put one in the office and see who’s nodding off at their desk.

You will really enjoy one of these at your home, especially if your kids are like mine. I am not too sure if the electrical bill will reflect any savings with the rising energy costs of this world, but it will sure be nice to not have to run through the house every ten minutes turning everything off.

Clockwatchers exist everywhere. They sit and stare at the minute hand, waiting for that final minute so they can call it quits and move on to the next part of their day. Kids do it during those dreadful classes, and us adults do it sitting at our desks. So if we are going to let time manage our every minute, at least we should have a way that makes watching time interesting.

This clock is sure to take your attention, even during the not so boring moments of life. The Time Machine clock is a kinetic timepiece that transfers a chrome ball every 60 seconds, alerting you that a minute has passed. Each minute shifts the line of balls until the passing of the hour, where the entire system begins again. It looks cool, and provides more entertainment than the standard white clock face, with that red second hand that always seemed to move way too fast yet never got you any farther.

You don’t have to be a physics nut to enjoy this one. Place it anywhere you might find some boredom and be amazed.
