My family and I just got back the other day from a nice camping excursion, and as much as it was a quiet and peaceful time it was good to be back home. Our main problem was the flashlight issue. If you have kids, you will understand. Being in a dark wooded area for a few days in a row, you often need light to make your way to the lavatory, look for some firewood, or whatever else brings you out in the woods at 2 a.m. Now, I had packed a few flashlights I purchased at the store right before the trip. My children decided it would be fun to turn these flashlights on and off the first afternoon there, shining them on the tent wall, the ceiling, and what have you. Of course, by the time night fell and dad had to visit the outhouse, none of them worked. And did I rememebr to pack extra batteries? Nope! So the rest of the weekend evenings were spent close to the campfire.

I think for our next trip, I will have to purchase this Coleman StormBeam Dynamo Lantern. It runs on human energy, meaning you have to crank it up to generate light. Just one minute of cranking will give you enough light for 15 minutes, so it is great for roughing it out in the woods. And with power on demand, you will never have to be without light again. Another bonus I would enjoy, which also hindered our weekend a bit, is that this lantern has some of the most common cell phone charges attached, enabling you to re-energize your cell phone should you do what I did and forgot the travel charger for the car. Hey, dad can’t remember everything!

So next time I camp out I will remember to pack my bag with this lantern.
